TAX ACCOUNTANT JOB SUMMARY
This position will be primarily involved in sales, use, state, other corporate acounting functions / special projects as assigned. The Tax Accountant works collaboratively with the Tax Supervisor and other corporate accounting staff to meet the tax accounting requirements of the company, related US and foreign affiliates. The Tax Accountant interacts with other members of the accounting, finance, and operations teams to obtain the necessary information.
TAX ACCOUNTANT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare state income and franchise tax returns, extensions, estimated payments, state modifications, and apportionment computations.
Prepare 5472' s and related calculations.
Extract, transform, and load data in tax sensitive format to support the compliance and tax provision process.
Analyze SAP account data, reconcile tax related accounts, run reports, and capture information and documentation required.
Manage Corptax system, upload data, run reports, enter adjustments, print returns, upload efile documentation, and facilitate efiling of the applicable state income tax returns.
Develop data and analyses for franchise tax forecasting and audits.
Research and interpret tax law, respond to tax notices and inquiries.
Monitor and identify new state and local tax law changes which could impact the company.
Draft responses to inquiries from tax authorities, outside consultants, and other business associates.
Update work plans, documentation and other reports as assigned to keep Managers apprised of project status. Prioritize and handle multiple tasks, and work under shifting deadlines.
Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to improve accuracy, reduce time and costs.
Assist with tax planning, work with outside consultants, and complete special projects as assigned.
TAX ACCOUNTANT QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor' s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university. CPA, Masters in Taxation or Accounting is preferred.
1 - 5 years of corporate tax experience including:
State income tax compliance for multi-state companies
Understanding of state income tax compliance including nexus, apportionment, unitary principles, combined and consolidated reporting.
Understanding of GAAP income tax accounting principles, IFRS experience, a plus.
Ability to obtain data from ERP system, reconcile accounts, and capture information needed for tax computations.
Familiarity with balance sheet, P&L and supporting schedules.
Working knowledge of Corptax Income Tax Compliance software including efiling procedures.
Experience, motivation and drive to make continuous process improvement.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and Adobe products.
Multitasking and being a team player with good written and verbal communications skills.
